She Applied For A Job At The Store
Putting on one of her favorite shirts for girls she took it off again. Forgot my deodorant, she thought to herself. She stood in front of the air conditioner as she rolled on the deodorant. She put it back on and buttoned it up.
Pulling on her skirt as she checked the time and put on her watch at the same time. It was gold so she looked for gold earrings. The medium size hoops were a good match. She added a gold and diamond bracelet that was a favorite piece of jewelry.
Grabbing a brown suede hobo bag, she saw that it matched her suede heels and outfit perfectly. She checked her pantyhose for runs. I have to look neat and coordinated today she thought to herself.
She had planned to wear her women’s brown boots but they looked scuffed. It was quarter to two and her appointment was for 2:30 PM. She went out to the car and got in carefully. I do not want to appear for my job interview all wrinkled and messy she reminded herself.
Her favorite song played on the radio. Lady GaGa blasted out of the radio and she smiled in response to the words. My first paycheck will buy me as many CDs as I want she thought to herself.
Music was a passion of hers. She watched American Idol each time it was on. She voted over and over for her favorite singer. She knew all about Susan Boyle. She knew the story of the male singer who got kicked off because his father revealed his winning prematurely.
One of the previous contestants who had failed to win was Jennifer Hudson. She had gone on to win a grammy for her role in Dreamgirls the famous broadway play. She had voted for Jennifer Hudson.
When she parked she stopped to memorize the location and level she was parked on. There had been a time in the past when it took her two hours to find her parked car in a similar parking structure. She never let that happen again since it was a traumatic experience.
She strolled into the store to remain cool and unwrinkled. She still had twenty minutes to go till her interview. He will hire me she repeated to herself as she walked. She stopped for a coke and sat quietly, gathering her thoughts. She tried to guess what the interview questions would be and thought of good answers. She wanted the job in the dress department very badly. She loved fashion and hoped her new boss would recognize what an asset she would be.

A Dirty Job: A Novel $5.82 Charlie Asher is a pretty normal guy. A little hapless somewhat neurotic more of a Beta than an Alpha Male. Charlie’s been lucky though. He owns a building in the heart of San Francisco and runs a second-hand store with the help of a couple of loyal if marginally insane employees. He’s married to a bright and pretty woman who actually loves him for his normality. And she Rachel is about to have their first child. But normal service is about to be interrupted. As Charlie prepares to go home after the birth he sees a strange man dressed in mint-green at Rachel’s hospital bedside – a man who claims that no one should be able to see him. But see him Charlie does and from here on out things get really weird. . . . People start dropping dead around him giant ravens perch on his building and it seems that everywhere he goes a dark presence whispers to him from under the streets. Strange names start appearing on his nightstand notepad and before he knows it those people end up dead too. Yep it seems that Charlie Asher has been recruited for a new job an unpleasant but utterly necessary one: Death. It’s a dirty job. But hey somebody’s gotta do it.Charlie Asher is a pretty normal guy.
