Saving Marriage Requires Work

Both you and your partner have to be ready to work hard to mend the pieces of your damaged relationship and understand that it will take both time and effort. The last thing you want is for your marriage to fall into a deeper mess than it is already. If need be, you may have to be the bigger person and take the first step, even if you feel you aren’t the one who is wrong. Sacrifices are necessary in order for your marriage to be saved. No one said that saving marriage would be easy.

Save Marriage Means “Stop Complaining”

Complaining can be just as aggravating as nagging. You may perhaps not realize this, but repetitively complaining to your spouse is also suggesting that they’re doing something bad. You cannot force someone to change. You should understand that each and every change comes from the inside. If there are some matters with your partner that you wish would change, then they need to recognize this for themselves.

You can add more to the hostility by trying to oblige your partner into changing when he’s not ready to or forcing him to view something as true when really; it’s not how he sees it. The constant nagging will make your partner feel as if you don’t value them for the unique individual they are.

You can help promote change in your spouse just by positively encouraging them whenever you notice them making efforts. You know change doesn’t happen overnight but you are delighted by the effort. Positive encouragement is more effective than verbal disapproval.

If you’re the one who always gets the disapproval and objections, then maybe you should try seeing things on a different perspective. Keep yourself from being defensive and protesting. Instead, try listening to your partner and try to understand the reasons they are complaining.

Try and hear the things your spouse is trying to tell you. You want your spouse to comprehend that you’re making an earnest and sincere effort to view it from their side for a change. Marriage saving is not an easy task, especially if you feel you are the one in the right but you must prove to your spouse that you are going to do whatever is necessary to save your marriage.

You never know the positive that can result from learning to communicate with your partner. Even if you don’t end up seeing “eye-to-eye”, your partner is going to appreciate your honest efforts in trying to understand their wants and needs.

Be patient and support each other. Understand that  marriage repair can only happen in the fullness of time. You will get frustrated some days and other days will be easier but all you can do is take it one day at a time. Don’t worry about the petty things and avoid quarrels. Always maintain the end result in your mind and heart. Talk is cheap so show your good intentions through your deeds.

Saving Marriage
How does God intervene in saving marriages in the process of divorce?

It’s not too late to reverse what has happened—if you both are willing to change. I hope you are, because God gave you to each other and He doesn’t want your relationship to come to an end.

This is why the first step I urge you both to take is to turn to God and commit your lives and your marriage to Christ. Your love for each other may have cooled—but God’s love for you has not, and He wants to help you rekindle your love for each other. He loves you so much that He was willing to send His only Son into the world to sacrifice His life for your salvation. Why not ask Him to come into your lives today?

Then, pause to thank God for the good things He gave you together in the past—for the love you once had, and the joys you once shared. Focus on these, and not only on things that have gone wrong. Then ask God to help you think of ways you can recover those good things.

In addition, learn to communicate with each other. You may feel you no longer have much in common—but you do, and you need to learn to talk about these things. In addition, try to be considerate and thoughtful, instead of taking each other for granted. The Bible says, “Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other” (1 Thessalonians 5:15).
