Hermes Scarves Are The Complete wardrobe

Posted on Friday, November 13, 2009 in Attraction

If you thought Hermès scarves were just for your neck, think again.  There are lots of ways you can get a new halter top or stylish headgear with just a couple of loops and folds.  Madonna wore one as a halter in the film Swept Away and Princess Grace of Monaco used one as a sling to support a plaster cast on her broken arm.Of course, they are elegant and stylish classical scarves and a host of the rich and famous who’ve worn them includes Audrey Hepburn, Jackie Kennedy, Maria Callas, Sarah Jessica Parker, Hillary Clinton, Mariah Carey, Elle McPherson and even failed US presidential candidate John Kerry (remember him?).

Hermes designer scarves are unquestionably elegant creations, but there are many ways you can extend your collection of women’s’ scarves into a complete wardrobe for any occasion.

  1. Bikini: Fold the ends of a scarf in twice until you get a long sash shape. Wrap it over your torso, and tie a big bow in front for an instant bikini topper.
  2. Crazy Cravat.Lay a square scarf flat. Bring the top and bottom ends to the middle, doing an envelope fold. Loop it around your neck, bringing one end over the other, then over again (as you would tie a necktie). Then simply secure a knot and let it rest at the side of your nape.
  3. When in Rome. You’ll need a very big square scarf (preferably 90cm by 90cm). Fold one corner, almost three quarters into the length of the scarf. The diagonal corner forms the toga portion of your top. Next, with the loose ends, drape it across the other shoulder, securing it at the shoulder blades. Bring the remaining two ends together and secure them at the side of your waist.
  4. Gypsy. You’ll need a big scarf (90cm by 90cm) for this look because you want the ends to hang loose down your back. Fold the scarf into half, just slightly overlapping the ends, so you get an asymmetrical triangle, then wrap the ends into a knot halfway at the back of your head.
  5. Skirting Celebrity.  Use two Hermès ladies scarves. First wrap one around your waist, knotting it at the side. Then take another scarf (preferably with a contrasting trim) and wrap it over, this time fastening the knot over one hip. You can wear the skirted look over a swimsuit or match it with a sleeveless turtleneck and black tights and wear it to the office or a party.
