Fashion Trends and Styles

Posted on Friday, July 10, 2009 in General Fashion News

Fashion trends change every season, but there are certain basic items of girls clothes that everyone wants in their wardrobe. Key pieces can be combined to create many different styles. While denim jeans are the norm in most wardrobes, the style of jeans changes regularly. Fashions change so quickly that the hot thing one year is totally out of fashion the next. Every teenager is different and although they may not care about current trends, that’s what will be in all the boutique’s and stores. Keep up to date with the latest trends through magazines or a quick surf online.

Because of the flexibility of jeans they are a must have basic item. Add a t-shirt, sweater or plain shirt for that casual look along with sneakers or flat shoes. The same jeans can also be dressed up nicely with a fancy blouse or a camisole with a jacket and heels.

Tank tops, turtlenecks, khakis, shorts, slacks, skirts, sundresses and blazers are key wardrobe pieces. The styles and colors of these items will also change from season to season. Don’t worry about skirt lengths as short or long tend to stay in fashion at all times.

The quality of girls clothes makes less difference because styles change so quickly. Pick clothes you can afford and not for durability as girls quickly tire of their outfits. That being said, you should always check labels for washing guides. Washable clothes are easier and cheaper to maintain than dry clean only.

Choose your own personal style through trial and error, don’t be afraid to experiment

One of the nicest things about teen apparel (and of being a teenager in general) is the freedom to experiment. What you wear can be an expression of your personality. Jeans now come in an array of colors. Fancy embroidered designs are displayed on Some while others have decorative rivets. Even the way the pockets are arranged can be a decorative element.

Round neck or v-neck it doesn’t matter, your T Shirt can be solid plain color. It can have stripes or patterns. It can display a message, either for or against a cause, showing off its manufacturer or just saying something amusing. The fun about T shirts is you can decide in the style you wear it as to the message you’re trying to portray.

The largest part of teens experiments in fashion is with accessories. You will find them in department stores and speciality stores as well as clothing outlets. The fit and comfort may be of secondary consideration to the style when selecting shoes. Yo may find this a bad tradeoff, it all depends on what you intend to do while wearing them. Be sure to try on both shoes as most people have one foot that is slightly larger than the other.

Shoes can be made of leather, imitation leather, cloth and other materials. Leather shoes are usually the most expensive, but they last the longest. Before making a big investment in shoes, think about how long you believe they will suit your taste, style and wardrobe and how long you might want to keep wearing them.

The handbag or purse is an important accessory. Matching your purse to your shoes? forget it and go wild, modern day fashion does not require a match. A backpack or large shoulder bag are ideal for carrying all your gear. Pick a tiny, shiny bag for that night on the town. If theres room for your phone, lipsalve, keys and cash etc. then it’s fine. A belt pouch is ideal if you have an active day planned. They used to be just for athletes, but nowadays they come in different colors and designs like other purses. And when you’re ready to get fancy, remember that you can add jewelry, gloves, hats, scarves and more to personalize your look completely.

What did people in the 90′s wear?

At my school, we’re having a 90′s day where we wear nothing but stuff from the 90′s. I was wondering what were the fashion trends and styles of the time. I have no idea what to wear. Any suggestions?

Well, the 90s are an interesting era for fashions. The early 1990s was a fashion called “grundge”- ripped jeans, black hoodies, corn rows, darker make up: this was from about 1993- 1996. From about 1990- 1993 (sorry, I’m going backward), it was watered- down late 80s style (AKA, the hair wasn’t as big). 1996- 1999, was an era of more classy fashions- a little bit of 1920s meets 1960s. Mesh made a comeback during this time along with beige lipstick with darker liner (for make up)- it’s hard to describe. Try watching American sitcoms that started, went through or ended in the 90s- that’ll give you a good perspective. Also try googling 90s fashions, but it seems it’s not far away enough for archivists to care.
For accessories, make sure everyone has a tamigochi (sp?) or some pogs, maybe throw a little Sailor Moon figurines in there. Make sure to play Nirvana, The Cranberries, Love Inc, The Spice Girls, Vitamin C, All Saints and Alanis Morisette. Serve Pop Tarts, Fuzzy Peaches and Sour Patch Kids. Have a good 90s day!
